Lip Color Tattooing is one of my most popular services. I do not call my procedure "Lip Blushing". You will see this phrase used a lot online and in social media posts. I title my service lip saturation as I prefer pigment to fully color lips and last as long as possible. The difference in these procedures is mainly the needles used and my hand movements while tattooing.. Lip "blushing" is done with very small single needles and is more of a pixelated finish. This finish is difficult on lips that are not young, full, and "perfect". If your lips are more mature, or your lips are not full or may have skin which is uneven textured or is thicker, then you may need a larger needle configuration that can fully saturate your lips. My service can be done on people of any age as long as your lips are healthy!

Even fully saturated lips can look very soft as pigments can be diluted to give a more "water color" effect.

There are SO many colors to choose from and colors can be mixed to give a custom look. Feel free to bring lipsticks or pencils that you use on a regular basis to help me coordinate a color just for you.

Preparation and aftercare information:

Lips are not like regular skin, they are thin and do not contain hair follicles or oil glands found in dermal tissue. The layer of skin your color will heal into is thin. It is very important to use a LOT of moisture on your lips before your procedure so I am not tattooing color into dry skin that will simply flake off and leave your color looking mottled or uneven. The smoother and softer your skin is before your procedure, the more color you will retain. Aquaphor ointment, Vaseline or moisturizing lip balms will help prepare your lips. Also lip scrubs, easily done by combining sugar and oil, such as olive oil or coconut oil, used twice daily, can help prepare your lips for your tattoo service.

After your procedure, the color of your lips will change a great deal during the first 4 weeks of healing. After the initial dry outer layer flakes off you may feel like you have lost your color. The next few days your color will reemerge as the skin heals "around" the color inside. Your color will continue to blossom as the next 2 weeks pass. Keeping your lips moist during this time will help color show more. Any patchy, or uneven areas will be addressed at your detail appointment if needed.

It is not always possible to achieve great color retention in just one appointment. Although you MAY only need one appointment, you should expect to need a lip detail appointment, which is $100 within 4 months after your initial tattooing. Your lips will need to heal for 6 weeks before your detail appointment.

If you have lip scarring, have had surgical procedures on your lips or have had previous tattooing done by another artist please book a consultation so I can assure you are a good candidate for lip procedures.

Brown and beige lip colors are NOT possible in lip tattooing as they tend to turn blue in the healing process.

It is important to be fully relaxed when you arrive for your appointment. Please do not work out, NO hot yoga, hiking, working in the yard, running or any other strenuous activity the day of your appointment. This increases blood flow and makes it harder to keep lips numb.

If you have EVER had a cold sore on your lip area, lip tattooing can trigger a cold sore. It is best to premedicate by contacting your physician to get a prescription for an antiviral drug such as Valtrex. Normally a 5 day supply started the day before your appointment can keep you from breaking out.

When you fill out your online intake forms there will be aftercare instructions to look through that will help you know what to expect during your healing process. I will provide you with a printed copy of these instructions, as well as aftercare ointment and a cold freezer pack at the completion of your appointment.

If you do not want to deal with the uncomfortable feeling of lip tattooing you can contact your regular dentist and request to have a "dental block" done. This will eliminate feeling in the lower area of your face and eliminate a lot of the discomfort and numbing time. I will give a 10% discount to your service if you have a dental block before you come in.

If you are not from this area, or would like to use a dentist closer to my office, an exceptional local dental office will offer dental blocks for our patients for a fee of $100.  Cash only for this service.  No insurance.

This service will need to be coordinated with their office and mine. Their dental office is located in Clyde NC approximately 15 minutes from N Waynesville so you can easily come directly from their office to mine.
